According to Article 42 paragraphs 1, 2 and 6 of the Austrian Highway Code (StVO), certain types of vehicles are subject to general driving bans on certain days. On Saturdays between 3.00 p.m. and midnight, and on Sundays and public holidays from midnight till 10.00 p.m. trucks with a permissible maximum weight of more than 7.5 metric tons as well as trucks with trailers if either the truck or the trailer exceeds 3.5 metric tons are not allowed to circulate unless the vehicle belongs to the exceptions noted in article 42, paragraph 2a.

**) Public holidays in terms of the cited article are: January 1 (New Year’s Day), January 6 (Epiphany), Easter Monday, May 1 (National Holiday), Ascension Day, Whit Monday, Corpus Christi, August 15 (Assumption Day), October 26 (National Day), November 1 (All Saints’ Day), December 8 (Immaculate Conception Day), December 25 (Christmas Day), and December 26 (Boxing Day).

Additionally, a general driving ban is imposed on all trucks exceeding 7.5 metric tons every day between 10.00 p.m. and 5.00 a.m. except for road maintenance or vehicles belonging to the Austrian Federal Army. Furthermore, low-noise vehicles are not subject to the driving ban if they carry appropriate certification. The permissible maximum speed for trucks during said period of time is usually limited to 60 km/h for the purpose of protection from noise.
